As the heat continues to last this summer, please remember to keep your pets cool and hydrated. Pets need just as much water as we do, and its important to make sure that you keep them cool and provide them with plenty of water. The American Pets brand pet beds we have online are really cute. They come in several different sizes, shapes, patterns and colors. Most of the colors and patterns are appropriate for either a male or female dog or cat and are neutral enough to go with most in home decor styles. The majority of pet beds they have on kmart.com will fit most dog sizes and add a little fun to your pets bed (The Cheetah and Tiger print beds are a favorite of mine).

But my absolute favorite items from this brand are the American Pets throws. These throws also come in different patterns and colors but even better - could be used for pets or a human! Spring Is Here! (But So Are The Pests)

With Spring weather, comes ticks and other insects that can be harmful to your pet. Fleas and ticks are the most common pests that you should keep an eye out for. They tend to hide in tall grass, shrubs, and fall out of trees and then attach themselves to animals to feed. Animals who spend time outside are the most susceptible to these insects.

To protect your pet, I would absolutely recommend treating your cats and dogs with flea and tick protection at the minimum from spring until fall. For those pet owners who live in a climate that tends to be warmer year round, you may choose to treat your pets with flea and tick protection all year.

There are different types of flea and tick protection available, including liquid medication you apply, flea and tick collars, and sprays. For my dogs, I like to use Frontline flea and tick protection. It is available for both dogs and cats and comes packaged in tubes for individualized *treatments (I recommend speaking to your vet about how often you should apply Frontline to your pet). Frontline is sold according to the pet's weight and you can easily see on the packaging and description which application is right for your size pet. I find it easy to use and my dogs barely even notice when I apply it.

After coming back from walks or after my dogs have been playing outside, I normally check them for ticks as soon as they come in the door. I usually just run my hand over their coat to check to see if I feel any bumps that shouldn't be there. With dogs that have less fur, it's easier to see just by taking a look at their coat. But dont worry if a tick or flea finds their way onto your pet. There are shampoos, sprays, dip treatments and home products to rid of these pests. I would recommend using these products as directed on the packaging as the treatment itself may vary.

Is It A Toy Or A Treat?

It's actually both! I love this cat treat from Multivet International. The Slimcat Tricky Treat Ball is not only a treat for your cat, but it is also a toy! Get Ready For The Rain

As the snow thaws and flurries turn into rain, we know the season of "mud" has begun. Muddy paws and wet fur coats are common in the spring months. As a dog owner, I know these days very well and know the mess that comes along with them.

I just can't get over how cute these dog pajamas are! Everytime I see them I can't help but say "awww".

SmartyKat Cat Toys And More

With the large amount of new pet supplies we are bringing on board, SmartyKat is a brand we recently added to Kmart.com. There are some really cool cat toys that this brand has. One of the toys is an interactive electronic remote controlled mouse. This cat toy comes with a cheese shaped remote control that controls whether the mouse moves forward, backwards or sideways. The mouse is fuzzy and on wheels and scoots around the floor, being powered by the remote control. Cats love this toy! They chase the mouse around on the floor and bat at it with their paws. The remote is battery powered and lasts for quite a few hours. Overall, this toy was fun for both me and the cats and kept them busy for quite some time. And they never tire of playing with it!
